Program Information

The National Park Service’s (NPS) Denver Service Center (DSC), Transportation Planning Branch provides support to the Washington headquarters office for the Transportation Management Program (TMP) and the Park Roads and Parkways Program (PRPP) which is primarily funded through the Federal Lands and Highways Program (FLHP). Special transportations projects have also been requested and developed utilizing park and regional office funding.

More importantly the DSC Transportation Planning Branch assists in developing economical, efficient and sustainable transportation strategies and alternatives by applying the principles of context-sensitive-design, enhancing the visitor experience and conserving natural and cultural resources. Transportation projects include pedestrian and hiking trails, bike trails, roads, parking, traffic calming, transit systems, signage, information integration, as well as operational support facilities.

DSC Transportation Planning Branch Services and Capabilities:

  • Project management, A/E management and Quality Assurance at all levels of planning, design
    and construction
  • Context-Sensitive Design Solutions/Sustainable Design
  • Participation in transportation assessments and scoping trips
  • Analyze transportation problems and offer a wide-range of transportation solutions including road and parking construction, congestions management, and traffic calming.
  • Lead and/or participate in public meetings, workshops and charettes
  • Develop public involvement strategies
  • Provide operations and management strategies to address asset management objectives
  • Facilitate Value Analysis and Choosing-by-Advantages workshops/meetings
  • Project Financial Proforma analysis
  • Provide NEPA and 106 Compliance expertise and leadership
  • Provide support for transportation capital improvements
  • Provide government contracting services
  • Preparation and presentations at the National Park Service Development Advisory Board meetings as well as regional work sessions.
  • Participate in the development of transportation training courses
