SERVICEWIDE LAWS AND POLICIES - Species of Special Concern

Current laws and policies require that the following conditions be achieved for species of special concern in the park:
   

Desired Condition: Federal- and state-listed threatened and endangered species and their habitats are sustained.

Desired Condition: Populations of native plant and animal species function in as natural condition as possible except where special management considerations are warranted. (Areas with special management considerations will be determined through management zoning decisions in the GMP.)

Desired Condition: The Service will strive to restore extirpated native plant and animal species to parks when specific criteria are met.

Desired Condition: Management of populations of exotic plant and animal species, up to and including eradication, will be undertaken wherever such species threaten park resources or public health and when control is prudent and feasible.
